FROM VB TO PINE HOUSE

Last month was very eventful. I went to several Diaconate ordinations of very close friends of mine, played a few concerts locally here in the Twin Cities and traveled to the East coast where I played a few concerts in our nation’s capital and in Virginia Beach for Memorial Day. I also participated in the “Run to Remember” 5k, which went fairly well seeing that I don’t really like running.  The “Red Horse”, which is the name given to my little 99 Ford Contour, cruised half the country without a problem. I thank God and good mechanics for this. I am continuing to work on my newest album. Making a new album is a process that is best when it is not rushed.

Here is a photo of my good friend David Neuschwander as he received the "laying on of hands" at his diaconate ordination.

I have found traveling alone gives a person a lot of time to think and listen to music and books. I listened to parts of “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis and “Theodore Rex”, book about Teddy Roosevelt, and just for fun I listened to John Steinbeck’s, “The Pearl”. Between books I have most recently been listening to First Aid Kit, The Civil Wars and The National. I am always amazed at how music can effect a situation. For instance, driving through the Carolina’s is just better to the sound of Eric Church’s “Carolina” or “Going to Carolina in my Mind” by James Taylor. And if you go to Colorado you simply have to listen to John Denver! As I drive around the country playing where I can I am constantly reminded of remarkable freedoms we have here. I pass from state to state in safety. A safety made possibly in part by the men and women working in our military every day and night, and my gratitude to them goes deeper then words. The “Run to Remember’ lived up to its name. It was a day spent remembering and honoring those who died serving our country and it stirred in me an even greater appreciation for those who still do.

The Run to Remember was really cool and it meant a lot to me to be able to participate!

June and the following months are full of travels and concerts all over the country. I just performed a benefit concert at the Golf for Freedom this Monday and will be doing back to back performances at the rustic Pine House Cafe on the 21st and 22nd. In July I will be in Door County WI, Alaska and San Diego.  In August I’m heading back East to play a few more concerts from DC all the way down to Jacksonville, North Carolina.  It should be a fun and eventful summer.  I am really grateful for all of your support and prayers!
